Podcasts

I have spent the afternoon catching up on listening to The Irish and Celtic Music Podcast on my mp3 player. I have been behind a couple of podcasts. I like this podcast because it airs a variety of music from traditional to rock. If you are looking for some Irish music, listen to this.

Newport Irish Festival

This is the weekend for the Newport Irish Festival. I am hoping to go to it. Black 47 is performing on Saturday evening. I'm not sure what day I'll be attending, but it is a good time on any day.

Rhode Island Irish Famine Memorial

I was looking at an old post about the Irish Famine Memorial, and remembered that I had taken pictures of it earlier this year.

More Irish mysteries

I have found more writers that use Irish detectives in their stories. One writer is Declan Hughes. His character, Ed Loy, is a private detective in and around Dublin. The books so far are: The wrong kind of blood, The color of blood, and The price of blood. I am currently reading The dust of death, by Paul Charles. The character in this book is Garda Inspector Starrett, in County Donegal.
I like to read fiction, because I feel I can learn about a place, without being bored by dry academic writing. That is why I read the series by Morgan Llwelyn, the Irish Century series.

St. Patrick's Day

I had a good time on Monday. Took the day out of work. I walked to my local Irish pub and listened to a band for couple of hours (and had a couple of Smithwicks). The band's name is Garda, I was wondering about the name, until I saw that some of the members were cops. I think they are pretty good.

St.Patrick's Day

Things will be a bit confusing this year for St. Patrick's Day. It falls on the Monday of Holy Week. An inner city church in my area usually holds a big celebration on St. Patrick's Day with music, dancing and food as a fund raiser. Someone had asked me if it was going to be held. I just said we'll have to wait and see.
I may take the day off like I usually do, after all to me it is a holiday. I probably go to the local Irish pub and try to squeeze in and enjoy the atmosphere.
